Are your birth family searches guaranteed?

No. When you hire OmniTrace to locate a birth mother or adoptee, you are asking us to conduct an investigation. During this investigation, we never know what we will find, so, we cannot guarantee we will find the subject of your search or that you will be satisfied with the end result.

Here are some situations we might encounter when looking for birth family members:

• Your birth parents might refuse contact.

• You may decide not to make contact.

• Your birth parents may be deceased.

• Your birth records were possibly falsified at the time of your adoption. This would circumvent our obtaining accurate name information. In other words, the paper trail could become dead.

• The adoption agency may have taken steps to make a successful search impossible.

• Your birth parents may be indigent, with no paper trail to follow.

• The information you originally provided us is incorrect. As an example, one of the most common issues is that birth mothers frequently do not remember accurate dates of birth for their children.

• Your birth parents may simply be unlocatable. When conducting historical research, even the best researchers run into unexplainable, brick walls at times. This, unfortunately, is part of the research process.

Are your “people searches” guaranteed?

No. As with a birth parent or adoptee search, when you hire OmniTrace to conduct a search for a person, you are requesting an investigation. During the investigation, we never know what we will find, so, we do not guarantee we will find the person you are looking for.

Here are some situations we might encounter when looking for missing people:

• They might be indigent with no paper trail to follow.
• They may be deceased with no death records available.
• They may be purposefully hiding.
• They may be living somewhere internationally.

Do you offer any guarantee?

OmniTrace guarantees we’ll conduct a professional search to find the person you seek. At the end of our investigation, you will receive a complete report containing all of our findings. This report is legally required by Florida law for any case taken on by a private investigator. When we locate a subject our report will contain their contact details, including their address and/or phone number. If we are unable to locate the subject, our report will list what steps were taken and why we were not able to successfully locate the subject.

Will I receive updates during my birth parent or adoptee search?

Adoption related searches on average take 8-12 months to complete but some can take longer (also some sooner). We ask for 16 weeks before you request your first update, as it typically takes this much time to receive responses to our initial requests for information. We then ask you to request updates every 90 days. However, if you receive something in the mail due to our efforts or you uncover something on your own, we want you to contact us as soon as possible or forward that information. That is not an update request. If we complete your search earlier, or receive important information, we will contact you and provide you an update.

Will you call me to provide updates?

We will call you when we have new information, have questions or need to speak with you regarding your case. However, as a normal part of our process we do not call you to provide updates. Will I receive updates about my non-adoption search?

Our people searches are typically completed very quickly; therefore, the first update you receive will likely be your completed search results.

If I email for an update, how long before I receive a response?

We normally get back to people within 24-48 hours, if not sooner. Sometimes our researchers are out in the field or we have to review a file before providing an update, so contacting you back immediately is not always viable. We are also closed on weekends, which can delay a response. If you do not hear back from us, don’t panic. Please email again or call our toll free number.

How long does a birth family search take?

A birth family search can take anywhere from a few weeks to well over a year. We will provide an estimate when you begin your search. The year of birth, state, hospital and agency are all factors that impact the length of time a search may take. Remember that an estimate is an estimate. Unforeseen factors can speed up or delay a search, so it is difficult to guarantee a time frame.

How long does a standard people search take?

Our people searches typically take from several hours up to two weeks. There are a wide variety of people searches we perform but rarely do they take over 14 days.

Can I cancel my adoption related search?

Searches begin the minute we take on your case with considerable out of pocket expenses, so we do not provide refunds. However, we do understand that clients change their minds for different reasons, so should you decide to cancel within several days of starting your search we will provide a refund minus any expenses we have incurred.
