Find Adoptee | Search By Date Of Birth Of Child
Adoptee Search
You may be surprised that you can find an adoptee by having just the date of birth of your
birth child. It’s true: having just a date of birth can lead to a successful adoptee search!
If you can recall your child’s date of birth, online databases are available to compile a list of persons, along with their addresses and phone numbers, born on that date of birth who currently or previously have been associated with the state where the adoptee was born. This list might be quite large, depending on the state, but will give you a reasonable chance to find your birth child by placing phone calls and writing letters.
(If you do not recall the exact date of birth, there are several ways you may obtain it, which we will provide you shortly in a future post.)
Of course, any additional identifying information on your birth child that you have or can obtain in addition to the date of birth will help you develop an even better, more focused list–or perhaps even an exact match. Helpful information might include:
- The amended (adoptive) first and/or last name of your birth child
- The first and/or last names of the adopting parents
- The age range of the adopting parents
- The non-amended, (original name) of your birth child
- The occupation of the adopting parents
- The area where the adopting parents resided at the time of the adoption
- The race and religion of the adopting parents
- The education of the adopting parents
- The name of the adoption agency or attorney that handled the adoption
- The name of the birth physician
- The name of the birth hospital
- When the adopting parents applied to adopt
- The hobbies of the adopting parents
- The medical history of the adopting parents
- The physical description of the adopting parents
- Other historical information
Some or all of the above information might be developed from a number of sources that we will write about shortly. We’ll also discuss statewide date of birth searching.

I am helping my mother-in-law in her search for her son that was born in 1955 at a home for unwed mothers on W. Grand Blvd & Fort Rd in Detroit, MI. Her maiden name is Young and the father’s name was not given. She does not remember the exact date of birth but says it was maybe February or March of 1955. She was 20 years old at the time. They say my DOB is 1/16/1976. My birthmom was 20 at the time and my birth father was 17. It says my mom’s dad was full blooded indian and she has 1 sister and 5 brothers. There was no information given about my birth father except his age.
Hello, I am Melinda Kaye Jett who is in search of my 2 nieces and 1 nephew. Their names are or was Jasmine Lacoy (jett) Crafton,Austin Layne (Jett) Crafton, Whitney Sheree (jett) Crafton! Jasmine was born October 27 1993 ish and austin was born August 30 ish 1995 ish and whitney was born august or sept! We have not seen these kids for 11 years! Hi everyone this is a repost i am looking for 2 birth brothers one born 07-12-1986 birth name matthew-vincent the other born 10-19-1987 supposed birth name was nico-juan or nicholas-john, i can’t seem to get a straight answer from my birth mother. we were all born in Boston, Ma as far as i know Catholic Charities handled our adoptions, their names may have been messed up by the agency as my birth given name was Krystyna-Maria & due to a either clerical or typographical error by Catholic Cahrities by adoptive parents were told my birth name was Kristyna Marie. Matthew tried contacting me in 2006 but due to emotional problems i was unable to take his call i’ve been searching for them since last May, i have found the rest of the birth family but need to find my 2 brothers to feel complete. i’ve had alot of tips but so far none have panned out.
