Adoptee Search
You may be surprised that you can find an adoptee by having just the date of birth of your
birth child. It’s true: having just a date of birth can lead to a successful adoptee search!
If you can recall your child’s date of birth, online databases are available to compile a list of persons, along with their addresses and phone numbers, born on that date of birth who currently or previously have been associated with the state where the adoptee was born. This list might be quite large, depending on the state, but will give you a reasonable chance to find your birth child by placing phone calls and writing letters.
(If you do not recall the exact date of birth, there are several ways you may obtain it, which we will provide you shortly in a future post.)
Of course, any additional identifying information on your birth child that you have or can obtain in addition to the date of birth will help you develop an even better, more focused list–or perhaps even an exact match. Helpful information might include:
- The amended (adoptive) first and/or last name of your birth child
- The first and/or last names of the adopting parents
- The age range of the adopting parents
- The non-amended, (original name) of your birth child
- The occupation of the adopting parents
- The area where the adopting parents resided at the time of the adoption
- The race and religion of the adopting parents
- The education of the adopting parents
- The name of the adoption agency or attorney that handled the adoption
- The name of the birth physician
- The name of the birth hospital
- When the adopting parents applied to adopt
- The hobbies of the adopting parents
- The medical history of the adopting parents
- The physical description of the adopting parents
- Other historical information
Some or all of the above information might be developed from a number of sources that we will write about shortly. We’ll also discuss statewide date of birth searching.

He was born at MUSC in Charleston South Carolina June 1971, he was a twin (the other twin died during birth) their birth names were Christopher Lee and William Sean (my mom doesnt remember which one passed away). Mother stayed at Florence Crittenton Home in Charleston under the alias of Penny Grant, she stayed there from january 71-june 71. the baby was in the hospital for a couple weeks because he weighed only 4 lbs at birth. he was adopted out of Columbia South Carolina, he stayed in a foster home for a couple months until they finalized the paperwork. my mom said she visited him before everything was finalized and gave the adoption agency a box for him with a blanket, booties, hat and sweater that she made while she was pregnant and a letter she wrote him.

I am searching for my birthmother and/or birth siblings. I was born on June 21, 1986 in San Antonio, TX (Bexar Co). It was a closed adoption done through a private attorney out of NY who went through a public agency. I am not sure of the name of the agency or the attorney. I know my BM was born on January 7, 1959 in Torrance, CA. She had two children- a male child born on May 7, 1979 and a female child born on September 5, 1984.
The only information on the birthfather was that he was born on May 4, 1950. My BM was married but seperated at the time of my birth and her family knew of her plans to put me up for adoption. My mom has told me that even though it was a closed adoption, her and my dad got to meet my BM and my BM told them she was going to tell my biosiblings I had died in childbirth. Searching for birth son born Jan. 9, 1967, Topeka, KS. Lutheran Social Services handled adoption. I searched Topeka Daily Legal News newspaper January-April, 1967, and could not find his birth name. Wouldn’t that have to be listed when adoptive parents go to court to adopt him? Under “Births in Topeka” column, it listed a male born Jan. 9, 1967, with his parents’ names listed. Knowing that name might help in the elimination process, I suppose. Private investigation firm said there were only two males born at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka on Jan 9, 1967. How could they find that out? How could I get access to that info? Does anyone now what non-ID info one could get from adoption file? Lutheran Social Services of Wichita, where the files were stored, has closed their offices. I have also asked SRS to see if they can find my son to see if he will agree to meet me. What else can I do? What further steps can I take to find my son? I am 61 years old. I need to find him.

I’m in search of my son. Born Isaiah Cardale Scott on November 6,1996 at Rose medical center in Denver, CO. He was adopted in 1998 at the age of 2 against my will. I myself was also a ward of the court when I gave birth to my son. My rights as his mother were terminated due to the fact I was both a teenager and pregnant again. I continously have contacted the case worker over the years to see if she has heard anything about him, if she could get any pictures, just anything that let’s me know he is okay. I have asked if she could contact the family and just pass my information on to them, just in case they would be willing to contact me. She refuses saying i can’t really due that and things like I wouldn’t know how to contact them. I would just like to know my baby is happy. I think of him everyday of my life. There will always be an empty space in my heart for him. I will never stop thinking of him or loving him. I would like to send them some pictures to Isaiah he may like to see them as he gets older, pictures of myself his father and sisters. Please help me find the adoptive family.I know it’s a possibility they will not want to talk with me but there is a small chance they may.

I am desperately searching for my biological son who was born on 2/3/1987 at Howard County General Hospital. I was 17 at the time and used the Barker Foundation in Washington, DC as my adoption agency. I know that my biological son has an adopted sister as well.
I have signed papers stating that he can open the records when he is of age (now). However, waiting and wondering if that time will ever come is sometimes more than I can handle.

Hello, I wanted to thank the search advisor website for helping me to post about locating my three son’s, Jason, Joseph and Patrick. This note is to let everyone know that through this website, my son Joseph found where I was located, he then gave his older brother Jason a tip to go online. Both were separated at the age of only 12, and then sent to a variety of “not so good” foster homes. I have also learned that when a child has been adopted, their SSN number changes. Children are not informed of everything that happened to lead to the family’s separation. One of my children are now residing in a Christian family, “Joseph” I wanted to let him know how much I love him and that when I was in the crises of our family situation, life was not as simple to unravel. I needed to ask for help, I was in danger, and yet stayed in a bad situation. I can only blame this on the medications I was dependant on, and being “stupid” there is no other excuse. I can say that I have always loved being a mother, and no matter how much time has passed I will never stop loving you “Joseph, Jason and Patrick.”
I was shaken up to learn how many problems my child Jason faced being in and out of the foster care system, when all of these years (ten) to be exact, he had a loving family searching for him.
If you have been placed in foster care, or have been recently adopted, never give up on finding your biological family. Chances are you are not told “everything.” I don’t agree with how children services do things. I needed so much support to get my family on the right path, and then, they separated us. Now, my boys have lost touch. However, Jason is back in my life, and I can only keep praying that Joseph will find this letter and be strong, I hope you can forgive me for not being more able to care for you when you were eight years old.
I found God, and I found hope. Now, I hope to find you, well, and happy, I want to share a part of my life with you, even if that is by email, or the telephone. I don’t expect you to forgive me for not being a better mom, or for the things I have learned that you had to go through. I can’t believe how much you have had to endure since our separation.
May God bless you and keep you always. I know now that God does exist.

Our family is very musical, I play the violin, your uncle Dale plays the drums, your uncle Shawn plays the guitar, and your grandmother Linda Wells (in Springfield) sings mostly country. They want to contact you, even if you don’t want to ever see me again, which I hope you will give me a chance, later in life. I want to see you graduate high-school, or maybe you could come and see your mom graduate College.
I found a good person in life, Dennis, we started a publishing site: one stop write shop. He has never hit me, and during the roughest of times, when I thought that God didn’t love me, he sat up with me, and told me that one day.

I am helping my godson find his birth fammily. He was raised in santa monica CA by a couple who claimed to be is parents, both now deceased. He has no birth certificate. I was told by someone that he was born with surname KING in 1971. His birth mother’s name may have been Vicki and she may have been born july 4, 19xx. Hi, My name is Pam, I’m looking for my daughter. She was born on Sept. 5th 1966 in St. Paul, Minnesota at the Salvation Army’s Home for Unwed Mothers. She was placed in foster care by Luthern Social Services until she was adopted at about 2-3 months of age. To my knowledge the adoptive father at the time was a pilot for an airline in Minnesota, and the adoptive mother was a secretary, who then stayed home with my daughter. I am now the mother of an additional 5 children, 4 boys,and 1 more daughter. My kids all know about my first child and we all would like to meet her. I did leave a letter with Luthern Social Services in the 80’s if she ever wanted to find me. So far no response. But at that time not many adoptive parents told the child that they were adopted. My brother was adopted out at birth from Clay County Hospital which no longer exist.I know they had picked a name for him Howard Taylor this is his biological name. He has 8 brothers and two sisters also has 3 half sisters 1 half brother. The two sisters are deceased and one brother. Both parents are also deceased. We believe the baby boy was taken either 1960-1961.
Sorry I left information out. The state was Ga. I don’t know if he was legally adopted at that time. I was told that a nurse who was employed at Clay County Hospital in Ga. at that time was the person that got him. I believe Dr. Weatherby was the Dr. who delievered him there was another Dr. Woods at the hospital at that time.

Hello, My name is rena, I have a younger sister who cmae to my parents as a foster child 3days after birth. She was born Jan 25, 1990 in Detroit, Michigan.From information gathered, her mom was about 15-16 yrs old.
