Find Adoptee | Search By Date Of Birth Of Child
Adoptee Search
You may be surprised that you can find an adoptee by having just the date of birth of your
birth child. It’s true: having just a date of birth can lead to a successful adoptee search!
If you can recall your child’s date of birth, online databases are available to compile a list of persons, along with their addresses and phone numbers, born on that date of birth who currently or previously have been associated with the state where the adoptee was born. This list might be quite large, depending on the state, but will give you a reasonable chance to find your birth child by placing phone calls and writing letters.
(If you do not recall the exact date of birth, there are several ways you may obtain it, which we will provide you shortly in a future post.)
Of course, any additional identifying information on your birth child that you have or can obtain in addition to the date of birth will help you develop an even better, more focused list–or perhaps even an exact match. Helpful information might include:
- The amended (adoptive) first and/or last name of your birth child
- The first and/or last names of the adopting parents
- The age range of the adopting parents
- The non-amended, (original name) of your birth child
- The occupation of the adopting parents
- The area where the adopting parents resided at the time of the adoption
- The race and religion of the adopting parents
- The education of the adopting parents
- The name of the adoption agency or attorney that handled the adoption
- The name of the birth physician
- The name of the birth hospital
- When the adopting parents applied to adopt
- The hobbies of the adopting parents
- The medical history of the adopting parents
- The physical description of the adopting parents
- Other historical information
Some or all of the above information might be developed from a number of sources that we will write about shortly. We’ll also discuss statewide date of birth searching.

On Feb. 23rd, 1986, I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy at 12:10am at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. The agency was Catholic Charities. I was told his parents were both teachers but the father had changed jobs and the mother was going to stay home with my son. I know that about a year later they had their own biological son as I have regulary called Catholic Charites to inquire about him. I was told that both parents had blonde hair/blue eyes as I do. I did get a letter from them and a picture of him, I cherish that. Tonight he will turn 22, it seems like it all just happened yesterday. There had not been one day since that I have not thought about him and prayed for him. I need to know that he has had a good life, that I made the right choice for him, that he is happy. I know boys are not as likley to look for their birthmothers but I sure do hope Matthew looks for me. I signed some paperwork at the time that I signed the final paperwork after his birth that if he wanted to find me that I was open to it. In the letter from his parents they said that he will always know how much I loved him and that he was adopted. I do not want to interfere with his life in any way or upset his birthparents as I am eternally grateful for taking my place and giving him what I could not at the time. I am now 39 years old and have been married for almost 10 wonderful years. We have not been able to have children and next to the loss of my son, that has been too much pain to bear. I just need to know that he is ok and happy. I need him to know that I had no choice but to love him enough to let him go. When I told my parents that I could not give him up, they gave me 1 hour to pack my things and get out. I was 9 months pregnant and slept on a park bench in the snow because I had no where to go, no money, no job skills. My church did not help me, the shelters turned me away, my friends parents did not want to get involved. I finally realized that he deserved better than that. He didn’t ask to be brought into this world and that it would selfish of me to keep him. I realized that you cannot live on love alone, the most painful lesson of all. Please help me find him. Thank you
I am desperately searching for my birth son. I was 17 at the time of his birth. He was born on August 8, 1981 at Rolling Hill Hospital in Elkins Park, PA.
The attorney who handled the adoption is Samuel Totaro. I have no other information about my birth son or his parents. The paperwork given to my mother at the time of adoption is gone. I recently asked my mother for any documents she had pertaining to my birth son. She told me she had shredded them a few years ago. I was and still am distraught over this.
Without the decree I do not know where to turn to begin my search. I hope you can help me, I believe the records in Pennsylvania regarding adoption are sealed. The adoption was filed in Bucks County Family Court in Sept or Aug. 1981. I look forward to any help you can give me.

The Bedow family is looking for their niece who was born to Patricia Bedow on December 14, 1963 in southern California, Los Angeles County I believe. Her name then was Gabriell M. Bedow. That is all I know about her. Gabriell tried to make contact with the family years ago, but our mother, who is 90 years old does not remember anything about the call.
my little brother was adopted out by cps illegally and i want to know if they really did go through an adoption agency. i know i cant contact him until he’s 18 but i want to know if cps actually did a legal adoption process.
he was born 03/20/1997 as daniel johanze sawyer to bonnie andrea sawyer. im pretty the hospital was kaiser on zion ave in san diego, ca. he was in my grandparents care until he was about two and then in a foster home of maria brown the lady who we were told adopted him. she’s mexican.
last i heard is that she moved to sun city, ca.
if the adoption was legal who would be able to find her in your records right?
Hi Angela. Please read our post on how to obtain non-identifying information in California: http://thesearchadvisor.com/find-birth-parents-california-non-identifying-information/
If your brother was adopted, the state will provide non-id. If he was not adopted in California, they will let you know.
I hope this information helps. Please write back if you have any questions.

Attention Kristina:
Just to let you and our readers know, you can access the Texas Birth Index (where the above list came from) on ancestry.com. Also, the above list covers all males born on 5/19/1986 in Tarrant County–not just Fort Worth.
Most adopted persons are listed in the Texas Birth Index under their adopted/amended names. So, there is a very good chance that one of the above persons is your birth brother.

I have an elderly friend named teresa diane duff who asked me to use the Internet to help locate her son, whom she gave up for adoption in 1970. She was young and raised by a overly religious family who did not want the community to know she was ever pregnant. They forced her to give him up immediately after birth. Her hometown was Jamestown,AL.The baby was born at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN and she named him Terry Wayne Duff, but doesn’t know if his adoptive parents kept that name. He was born on 2-12-70 and was transferred to Gadsen, Alabama to be adopted.
I really want to help Teresa, but I don’t have a clue where to begin…any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Searching for Robert Floyd Ruffner – age 53 – and his brother, William Eugene Ruffner Jr – age 55. Raised by dad in Pa. Robert may be in Pa or Va. William once lived in Fl and may have children there. Call Joyce.
I am searching for my two son’s, Jason Leroy Estep and Joseph Allen Woodruff. I received some help from G’s Adoption Register last year with locating Jason. They came up with a lot of information, most of which is still inconclusive. I went to the Vital Statistics Office to obtain my oldest sons birth record using his birth name and they could not locate him in their database, which meant his name had been changed.
Jason was born in Clark County, Springfield on January 5, 1989 weight 9lbs, 2oz. Born to Katina Woodruff and Danny Leroy Estep Jr.
Joseph was born in Clark County also, DOB, October 2, 1991.
7lbs
Has a brother named Patrick
He resides in Mechanicsburg, Ohio
Karl Patrick Sinclair (Now)
DOB 3/17/93
The boys were removed from my legal custody in 2000, by the department of Humane Services/Children Services due to the situation I was residing in/domestic violence and other issues.
I was never given a “goodbye visit” or photos of my boys.
They resided with me on Brushy Fork drive last, in Newark/Hanover Ohio, Licking County.
Jason had ADHD and Joseph was an accelerated learner.
I don’t know how you can help me locate my children. My hope is all but run dry. I am writing my memoir currently, and plan to put their photograph on the cover hoping that they will see it and contact me.
I fear the worst, since my oldest is over 20 now, and he was age ten when we were separated from each other. I was very close to my children.
I wish I could tell all of the adopted children in the world to look for their biological parents, sometimes very bad things happen that cannot be resolved by the parents. The love a mother feels for her child never goes away, it continues to grow, everyday no matter how far apart they seem to be.
Thanks for reading.
*I hope you don’t mind but I wanted to write a message for my boys, in the event they stumble upon this site/page.–Thank you*
Jason, and Joseph,
if you find this note, I want you to know, I miss you so much, and that I am terrible sorry for any pain that our separation has caused you. I was not well at the time of our separation, and had no one to help me when I needed the support. I pray you have been loved, and cared for.
I don’t expect you to forgive me for causing so much disruption in your life, but I do hope that you will contact me so that we can reunite and so that I can tell you all the things I was never permitted to. The truth about what happened, and why I was not strong enough to fix the situation. I am very sorry.
I love you, I have never stopped looking for you. I will continue searching every day for the rest of my life.
Jason–You used to want to be a country western singer, I hope your drams come true, you can do and be anything. I always knew that your ADHD was just a part of who you were, and not a disability.
Joseph, Are you still drawing? You were the little artist in the house. Grandpa and grandma used to draw cartoons, and I draw animals mostly now. Maybe you could help mom illustrate my books. Or maybe you could just give me an email, to let me know you are okay.
Love always,
mommy,

Hello Katina. We conduct many successful searches for adoptees in Ohio, however, because your sons are so young, we are not sure of exactly what we can do for you here.
The head of our research department is contacting our Ohio researcher to see what is available for the years of birth of your sons.
We’ll contact you as soon as we know something. In the meantime, please feel free to send what information you have already received via G’s. We’ll be happy to take a look. Our email is support@thesearchadvisor.com.

I was born on June 26, 1977 in suffern new york. My adopted parents said Jacqueline was already my name, when they adopted me it went to Jacqueline Merle Taylor. I was adopted by John Bryant Taylor and Pamela Rosemary Taylor. I don’t know much about my birth parents, other then my mother went into debt for my father, and he was trying to open some auto mechanic business. If anyone can please help me or knows anything I would appreciate it.
I was born march 10th, 1959, in Maryville,Tn. (Blount County) I may have been a Jesse ( Jessie, etc),but not for sure about that.I was in and out of foster homes , and at least one orphanage. I was adopted at age 5 by Ruby and Mary Frances Keith of Cross Plains ,or White House Tn.The adoption took place in Springfield,Tn. at the Robertson County courthouse. My adopted father was a farmer, and my adopted mother was a nurse. She worked many years at the Springfield hosp, possibly known as Jesse Holman Jones Hospital at the time. Then she worked for 35 years at the Robertson County Health Department.I actually have the docket number on the adoption papers if you need them.Their home address was in White House, Tn. If anyone can help me find my birthfamily, I would really appreciate it.Also, we are white.I think my adopt. father was in his 40′s and adopt. mother was in her 30′s when they adopted me. Thank you again !
Dear moderator,
I probably shouldn’t have posted their address. Can you blank that out please. I am just so excited to find you all, that I wasn’t thinking clearly
Thanks, Robert
We made the change for you Robert.
Also, please read our following post:

would it be possible to run a search for all the males born on march 10 1959 in Blount county tn thank you Robert
Hi Robert. Obtaining a list of males born March 10, 1959 will not help you find your birth parents. Only ammended names will be listed. Not original birth names.
Your best bet is to read up on open records in Tennessee, per our suggestion.
Thanks.
Dear moderator,
My name is Jacqueline, I posted the comment on july 21. Do you have anything that might help me find my birth mom or dad? I will appreciate anything you can help me with.

I am eagerly looking for my birth daughter, born on June 13 1986 @ Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami Flordia. I believe you live in Tallahassee Flordia and your name in “Allison” I live in Maryland and would do anything to see you! Lisa Ann Williams Sears
Hi Lisa. We conducted a first name and date of birth search for the entire state of Florida but did not obtain any matches.
Sometimes, when a person is as young as your birth daughter, they don’t always appear in our databases. However, Florida is a very good state for us to conduct this type of search for younger people because we can obtain driver’s license information.
So, there is a good chance that your information is incorrect or that your birth daughter has moved to another state.
I’m sorry we couldn’t be of more assitance. If you have additional information to provide us, we’ll be happy to take another look.
Best regards,
